Schalke 04 defender Kyriakos Papadopolous has revealed he would like to play for Manchester United following reports linking him with the Premier League giants.

Reports emerged last week claiming United are keen to sign the 20-year-old centre-half as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to bolster his back-line options.

However, while the reports appear to be just media speculation at present, Papadopolous has admitted it would be an “honour” to one day play for United.

"I don't know if there is any interest from Manchester United," he told Sky Sports. "It's an honour for me to hear that such a big club likes my football but, at the moment, I don't know anything about it.

“Of course I would like to someday play for Manchester United, but I am a player of Schalke and I am focused on them."

Papadopolous, who moved to Schalke from Olympiakos in 2010, established himself as a key player for the Bundesliga club last season and is rated as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

He is currently at Euro 2012 with Greece who have booked a quarterfinal showdown with Germany.
