Bayern chiefs talk up Schweini
Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes
While the Spanish pair have been nominated for the FIFA Ballon d'Or in recent years, Schweinsteiger has avoided the spotlight but has established himself as one of the game's top midfielders with his performances for Bayern.
The Germany international missed a large part of the season through a troublesome shoulder injury and Rummenigge told kicker: "He was absolutely fantastic until he got injured. There's not much of a difference between Bastian, Xavi and Iniesta. He's a very important player at Bayern."
Having come through the ranks at Bayern, Schweinsteiger was also praised by coach Heynckes, who revealed: "For me, Bastian Schweinsteiger plays in a league with Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and Sergio Busquets."
Bayern will be without their star midfielder in their Champions League tie against Basel after he injured his ankle in the goalless draw against Freiburg.
