Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has voiced his delight with the successful operation on his ankle injury, and is keen to return to the training pitch again as soon as possible.

The Germany international picked up a knock in Bayern's LIGA Total! Cup participation at the weekend, and will be out of action for a total of six weeks.

"I’m delighted the operation went well and that the pain is gone," Gomez was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"I’ll need to be a little patient now, but after that I’ll do everything I can to be available for selection again as quickly as possible."

Bayern doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt explained that the prolific hitman will have to rest for the upcoming three weeks, before starting individual training.

"The operation went extremely well," commented Muller-Wohlfahrt.

"In all likelihood, Mario will have to sit out training for the next three weeks. After that, he’ll be able to start on a sports rehab programme."

Gomez is expected to be replaced by either Mario Mandzukic or Claudio Pizarro during his absence.
