Matip sees no rivalry

"Huub Stevens likes to try lots of options in training and during the warm-up games," said Matip.
"You have to be fully focused at all times. There's still some time to find the ideal formation before the season starts and until then every player will want to put himself in contention.
"The competition for places is fierce," he added. "But it's the same in other Bundesliga teams. I want to assert myself and play as many games as possible again. As a footballer, you have to face the competition.
"We have great depth in every position, not just in central defence. That's where I prefer to play but I can also play in holding midfield. I try to do my best wherever I'm needed in order to help the team.
Matip believes Schalke can challenge at the top of the Bundesliga table again. "I think we can still improve on last season. This team has lots of potential.
“Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are the favourites for me but you never know what can happen if we have a really good run. It's definitely going to be an exciting season."
