Bayern send Koln down
Thomas Muller, Bayern Munich
Milivoje Novakovic got the consolation goal for the home side. The defeat means that Koln is now relegated from the Bundesliga.
Bayern should have taken an early lead in the 19th minute when striker Mario Gomez superbly went past Koln defender Kevin McKenna before sending a shot just wide of goal.
Four minutes later a mistake by Bayern defender Diego Contento in the final third allowed Koln to hit Bayern on the counter. Lukas Podolski found himself in good position to shoot from outside the box, but Neuer made a spectacular save to block the finish.
Podolski was everywhere for his team in the match, spearheading the attack and tracking back on every occasion. He may be leaving for Arsenal at the end of the season, but his heart surely was in the right place.
But Bayern then took the lead in the 34th minute. McKenna's poor positioning left Thomas Muller all alone at the end of a cross by Ribery, and the Germany international made no mistake as he fired a volley past Koln keeper Micheal Rensing.
Two minutes later Ribery tried his luck with a powerful low shot as he shot just ahead of Thomas Muller, but his finish narrowly missed to the right.
The Bavarians took a 1-0 lead into the break and for Koln they seemed headed for relegation as Hertha Berlin had taken 1-0 half time lead against TSG Hoffenheim.
Seven minutes after the break, it was not raining for the home side but pouring when disaster struck. A quick counter-attack saw Ribery break free on the flank before whipping in a low cross, which was deflected into the net by the Pedro Geromel. It was now 2-0 after 52 minutes.
Two minutes later the Bavarians finally put the match out of the reach of Koln. A cross by Toni Kroos found Robben completely unmarked in the box, and the Dutchman showed no mercy as he powered a finish into the net, with Rensing left stranded.
Bayern then compounded the Billy Goats to more misery in the 86th minute. Rafinha ran down the right flank before whipping in a pass for Muller at the near post. The German applied a stupendous back heel finish as the ball looped over Rensing.
In the 63rd minute Milivoje Novakovic gave the home side something to shout about. The striker was picked out by Lukas Podolski, who showed a clean set of heels to Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, and converted easily with a simple touch.
There were ugly scenes in Koln as the game ended prematurely. The Billy Goats fans felt upset as their team has been relegated, and they caused a riot. It was a disgraceful finish to the Bundesliga season for Koln, as police entered the pitch as smoke bombs went off.
