A brace by Jakub Blaszcykowski and a late strike by star forward Robert Lewandowski ensured that Borussia Dortmund defeated Nurnberg 3-0 at the Signal Iduna Park on Friday night in a Bundesliga match. The result also means that the visitors continue to be scoreless at the Dortmund fortress since 2006.

In the fifth minute there was a huge miss by the home side.  A lovely through-ball got Kuba in behind the Nurnberg defence, but rather than shoot, he elected to play in star striker Robert Lewandowski, who could only steer it wide from a matter of yards. It should have been 1-0.

Nurnberg were however unfortunate not to be ahead in the 15th minute.  Markus Feulner put in a great ball to Tomas Pekhart, whose downward header forced a fantastic save from Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller. Defender Felipe Santana scrambled it away back to Feulner, but the keeper was there yet again to make the stop.

Dortmund were awarded a penalty kick in the 17th minute when fullback Lukaz Piszczek got down the right and latched onto a through ball, and Timo Gebhart bundled him over. Nurnberg protested, but to no avail. A minute later Blaszczykowski stepped up to take the penalty and calmly side-footed it past Nurnberg goal minder Raphael Schafer.

Three minutes later the Bundesliga champions exhibitioned their championship quality when they doubled their tally in a short space of time through Kuba again. Winger Mario Gotze got down the right and pulled it back to the penalty spot and the Polish winger swept it home.

On the hour mark Dortmund squandered a chance to make it 3-0 through a series of mishaps. Firstly Lewandowski beat the offside trap and tried to give Gotze a tap in, but the playmaker passed it back to his team-mate. This time, the Pole shot, but Schafer came out and made a brave save from close range.

Two minutes from time Dortmund closed the contest out. Santana lofted the ball over the top to Marco Reus, who tapped it across the face of goal for Lewandowski, who swung a boot at it and finally got his goal.
