Bundesliga new comers Greuther Furth will face a baptism of fire on Saturday afternoon when they face German giants Bayern Munich in a Bundesliga match at their Trolli Arena home base in Fürth with kickoff being at 15h30 (CAT).

Bayer have had two competitive matches this season and they have won them both to signal their intention of going one step higher this season.

Die Rotten were bridesmaids of the previous season, they finished in second place behind rivals and champions Borussia Dortmund in the league, than suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the same opponents in the DFB Pokal final and a week later they were beaten finalists in the Champions League.

The Bavarians are eager to rewrite the wrongs of the 2011/12 season and will hope to use Greuther as target practice to signal their intentions of reclaiming the Bundesliga crown.

Holger Badstuber has stressed that Bayern Munich's main priority is winning the Bundesliga this season after seeing Borussia Dortmund claim the title in the last two terms.

"The Bundesliga is my top priority. We can't afford to slip up there again. Last year we had a very good spell, but it was too short," the Germany international told the Bundesliga's official website.

"After two years without winning, [the Supercup] was a matter of prestige. Obviously it gave us a lot of confidence, but we don't want to place too much importance on it.

"Competition for places is important at every club, but I'm looking forward to the new season positively. I have new aims and a desire to keep developing. If I can combine all of those things then I'll play."

“We have much greater quality and depth than last season," the coach stated, before awarding his men the day off on Tuesday. It is the final chance to draw breath before the crucial league opener.

Fürth were finally promoted to the Bundesliga last May after many near misses and they'll be totally fired up for the match.

Their consistency, rather than spectacular play, paid off in the end as they kept picking up points (losing just once in the second half of the 2011/12 season) where their rivals dropped them.

After gaining promotion as champions, they can rightly go into the new campaign full of confidence, although they will undoubtedly need a period to adjust to the top-flight.

They have not started the season good note, last weekend they became the second Bundesliga team to fall to lower league opposition in the first round of the DFB Cup, following in the footsteps of 1899 Hoffenheim as League 3 opponents Kickers Offenbach beat them 2-0.
