Mulenga is Zambia’s best striker in Europe
Jacob Mulenga: Finished as top scorer for Dutch club FC Utrecht
He beats compatriot European-based attackers Rodger Kola of KAA Gent who finished in first season in Belgium on two goals and Fwayo Tembo of Romanian club Astra Ploiesti who has so far scored six goals with two games left to play while Southampton’s Emmanuel Mayuka has yet to score for his English club.
"I started in 23 of the 28 games and scored 14 goals and three assists," Mulenga told MTNFootball.com.
"All thanks to the Lord almighty for a blessed season."
Mulenga seals his top scorers spot for Utrecht this season with the second goal in the Dutch club’s 3-0 home win over 12th placed Heracles.
He converted a 71st minute penalty after providing an assist for Cedric van der Gun in the 53th minute.
The 29-year-old Zambia striker prolific season comes after his returning from a 10-month injury layoff this season that saw him miss the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations that Zambia went on to win in Gabon.
Mulenga later had a forgettable AFCON return at the 2013 event in South Africa where he played just 15 minutes in Zambia’s opening game against Ethiopia that ended 1-1 on January 21 in Nelspruit.
Meanwhile, Utrecht finished the season in fifth place on 63 points, 13 points behind champions Ajax Amsterdam.
