Malawi defeated Zambia 1-0 in a friendly played away in Blantyre Friday.

The two teams went into the break scoreless in this friendly played as part of Malawi’s independence celebrations.

Ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Kamwendo scored the game’s only goal six minutes before fulltime at the Kamuzu Banda Stadium in Blantrye.

Zambia coach Herve Renard took with him to Blantyre a home-based side with defender Aaron Katebe of Hwange in Zimbabwe the only overseas-based player in the team.

Both teams are contention for places at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Champions Zambia have been drawn against Uganda, while Malawi face a daunting task against Ghana Black Stars.

The Chipolopolo are also billed to tackle South Korea in another friendly in Seoul next month as part of their preparations for the Nations Cup qualifiers.
