Cranes defender Kalungi joins MSL side DC United
Cranes defender Kalungi
The former KCCA FC player who was part of the Cranes team that won the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup in December was offered the loan deal yesterday.
Mujib Kasule, the Vice President in-charge of the League under the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) said Kalungi’s move to the MSL is good because it will give him top exposure and also benefit the national team.
Kasule who also played College football in the US confirmed that the Cranes defender has been offered a loan move for the next season which starts in April.
Kalungi’s new team departed yesterday for Orlando to begin a 17-day camp built around the Disney Pro Soccer Classic, an eight-team preseason tournament. DC United will play four matches as well as an off-site friendly against the Philadelphia Union.
Kalungi becomes the sixth Ugandan player to feature in the MSL. The other players who have played in one of the teams in the MSL before include; Peter Byarugaba (Kansas City Wizards), Sulaiman Tenywa Bonseu (MetroStars, Dallas Burn, Columbus Crew, Chicago Fire), Eugene Ssepuya (Colorado Rapids), Robert Ssejemba (DC United) and Joel Kitamirike (Columbus Crew).
