Swazi government has been urged to consider supporting development at grassroot level if soccer is to improve in Swaziland.

Orlando Pirates’ new recruit, Patrick Phungwayo, who is yet to be officially unveiled as a ‘Buccaneer’, said this during his visit to the Ishibobo Academy in Manzini.

Phungwayo was also joined by Swazi-born Jomo Cosmos striker Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini during the visit.

Phungwayo said it was important that government help those who are doing their best to kick-start development.

“Even if they just fork out E50 000 towards the academies and either football or other sports, it could help,” he said.

The former Bidvest left full back mingled and chatted with the juniors who were all smiles meeting the Pirates signing.

Phungwayo said he was happy to see kids interested in playing football. He urged them to work more hard to live their dreams. The players said he started playing football at the age of 5 years.

“What help was commitment and respect. As a player you have to respect what you doing and you will succeed,” he told MTNFootball.com.
