MTN Premier League of Swaziland 2012/13

League Overview

The Swazi Premier League began with eight teams in 1968 after the country gained independence from the British.

It became a fully fledged league in 1972 but did not attract any sponsorships until 1984 when Swaziland Breweries (now known as Swaziland Beverages) began sponsoring it under the banner of the Castle Lager League.

Then in 2001, following the withdrawal of Swaziland Breweries, MTN Swaziland took the baton sponsoring the premier league to the tune of E300 000N in the 2002/03 season.

Hub giants Manzini Wanderers were the winners of the first MTN league trophy.

MTN Swaziland has lived up to its promise of painting the country yellow and the 2012/13 season marks the 11th season Swaziland’s premier league is being sponsored by the Mobile Telecommunications Company.

The sponsorship now stands at E1. 5million with the winners taking home E600 000. Mbabane Swallows are the reigning league champions.
