Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund visited Kaizer Chiefs late last week to discuss his plans with AmaKhosi mentor Stuart Baxter.

Igesund is on a countrywide roadshow around the club with the intention of fostering relationships with the club coaches in the hope of getting better insight into who is performing.

Igesund was accompanied by his assistant coaches Thomas Madigage and Serame Letsoaka and met with Baxter, himself Bafana coach between 2004 and 2006, Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung and the club’s marketing director Jessica Motaung.

“There will be no one who will wear the national team jersey without hard work. I will personally work with the national team coach and advise him on who is working hard. I will be the person that will speak on behalf of the players,” Baxter said.

Igesund says he hopes that his work with the clubs will bear fruit for the national team and adds that he will also be attending team training sessions.

“We will work closely with clubs, and we will be attending games and also training sessions. We need super fit players in the national team and it’s up to the clubs to produce them. At times we only have about four days with them and that is spent on tactical work,” Igesund said.
