Claasen starts pre-season
Bafana Bafana midfielder Daylon Claasen is
back in training at Belgian side Lierse after over two months on the sidelines
with a knee injury.
Claasen had missed the last two games of
last season after picking up the injury and the three Bafana Bafana matches
last month, including the opening two games on the road to Brazil 2014.
The nuggety midfielder has not yet seen any
action in pre-season friendlies but is back in full training with his club,
officials said.
It opens up the possibility that he might
yet move from the Belgian club to a higher profile league in Europe. Claasen had
previously been linked with English Premier League outfit Queen's Park Rangers.
It will also come as a boost to new
national coach Gordon Igesund, who will select his first squad in the next
month. One of Claasen's two South African compatriots at Lierse has left -
Siboniso Gaxa has gone to Kaizer Chiefs, while Lance Davids is still at the
Belgian outfit but is looking for another club.
Claasen is one of just five South Africans
now left in Belgium - Anele Ngcongca at former champions Racing Genk; Ayanda
Patosi and Ebrahim Seedat at cup winners Lokeren and goalkeeper Darren Keet at
Kortrijk.
