Kapini expecting tricky start to MTN8
Tapuwa Kapini of AmaZulu
Roger Palmgren’s men finished in seventh place in the Absa Premiership last season to book their place in this encounter against the league runners-up.
Usuthu conceded 24 goals in 30 league games last season, just one more than the league’s best defensive sides, and Kapini is anticipating an interesting battle against a side that scored the most goals.
“We were solid at the back last season but that doesn’t mean we didn’t make mistakes,” said Kapini.
“We’ve been working hard to improve the way we defend as a team because we believe there’s a lot of room for improvement.
“Starting the tournament against an attacking side like Swallows will be a good test for us; they play good football and have a lot of guys who are capable of scoring.
“Last season they gave us some problems; they beat us at home and we played to a 1-1 draw away from home, so we know it’s not going to be an easy game at all.
“It’s a cup game and the best team on the day will through to the next round, so we’ll also put pressure on their defence because games are won through scoring goals.”
AmaZulu will face the Dube Birds away from home on Saturday, August 4.
