Born in Villiers in the Free State, ‘Shaba’ later moved to Ajax Cape Town’s Youth Academy and worked his way through the system before a senior team debut was given to him in 2003/04.
Initially Shabalala was a centre forward, but given his strong physique in more recent seasons he has played in midfield and has become something of a powerhouse box to box player.
Injuries have worked against him in recent seasons though, but he remains one of the club’s fiercest competitors and most dedicated performers.
An Under 23 and 20 international, Shabalala, now 25, has played over 100 times for Ajax.
