For the Buccaneers their biggest problem lies in the defensive department as Siyabonga Sangweni, Rooi Mahamutsa and Robyn Johannes occupy the causality list.
Their eight goals conceded in just three games has seen Roger De Sa’s backline leak more than a colander, and if a second division side such as Maluti College can strike four past the Sea Robbers, then Kaizer Chiefs will certainly be favouring their chances.
Sangweni did however return to training this week but his chances of featuring are slim.
Benni is on the verge of making a comeback to action, but after months of sitting on the comfy chairs of the SuperSpor TV analyst’s panel he will be in need of a lot more training days before he can return to playing.
“Most of the guys have come back for us from the last game we played on Wednesday. We are just trying to get back a few guys in time for selection,” De Sa says.
“Sangweni trained today. We have to see if he is ready or not. Out of the injured players he is the only one that has a remote chance of playing on Saturday.
“Everybody; Josephs, Myeni, Mahamutsa, Johannes and Benni are still out for the season.”
Kaizer Chiefs
Meanwhile on the Gold and Black end of Soweto, the muscular injury Tsepo Masilela sustained in the 1-1 draw to Bidvest Wits may see him recover in time.
Keegan Ritchie was the player who filled in for him but the Amakhosi are still looking somewhat undernourished in the attacking side of things.
“[Lehlohonolo] Majoro is definitely going to be out. We are expecting Tsepo and Bernard to be back. Rusike will also be out,” said coach Stuart Baxter.
Rusike was dealt a bit too much spice for his liking when he suffered an unlucky groin injury in their 2-0 victory over Chippa United on Wednesday evening.
“The guys that played on Wednesday, some of them are players that have been on the bench for most of the season so I am happy that whenever a player has been called upon to do a job, they have done well.”
Despite the unwanted amount of injuries, Baxter is confident he still has a decent amount of players at his disposal to shuffle the pack and add fresh legs.
“We have the options to shuffle the team around. I just hope that whoever goes onto the park on Saturday gives a performance that reflects the kind of team we are,” he concluded.
