Stekelenburg: ‘Fanteni was a fantastic player’

The veteran striker completed a R1.5m move to Bidvest Wits in the final week of the transfer season, with many feeling that Bradley Grobler’s arrival was a reason for his departure.
“We didn’t get rid of Fanteni,” the coach noted after Ajax’s 4-1 win over Platinum Stars. “Fanteni was a fantastic player for our club and Terror is a fantastic player.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Terror and want to wish him all the best with Wits.
“But there are coming moments, for a club and a player that it is good to shake hands and continue.”
Fanteni’s departure leaves the Urban Warriors with just one notable striker upfront, but the Dutch coach believes his players are able to complete the task.
“With the signing of Bradley, we knew of the quality we had in the building,” continued Stekelenburg.
“I am confident with the striking department that we have and also with Alcardo van Graan- who I think is underestimated as a striker- and even Lebogang Manyama. All our players can play up front.
“We have a lot of players in our squad to fill in that number nine position and when you have a player like Terror Fanteni he must player every week, because of the quality of the player and the experience.
“I don’t want to talk one negative word about Terror because I think he is an exceptional player.”
