AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates will play a new one-off fixture which is to be known as the Freedom Cup on July 8 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

A Durban based company called FN Printing Solutions who are the organisers of the event say the tickets for the one day event will go on sale on Monday,.

The Gauteng giants and reigning ABSA Premiership champions, Orlando Pirates who recently celebrated their 75th anniversary clash are looking forward to the clash against AmaZulu who are also posed to celebrate their 80th anniversary as one of KZN and South Africa’s oldest clubs.

“We have also approached the KZN Department of Transport to help in the education of road safety and crime prevention which will be conducted two days before the match in areas around Durban. We’ve also approached Ukhozi FM as a media partner to help punt the match,” said Nkule Sithole, the founder of the cup.

We decided to call it the Freedom Cup because a lot of people in our country look to football for freedom.

The winning team will be presented with a winners’ cup and medals.

He added that the match will be an ideal appetizer for football loving revelers who will be coming from the Vodacom Durban July which is just a few kilometers from Moses Mabhida.

“We received the invitation and accepted it. We’re eager to have a run in Durban,” said Orlando Pirates Administrative Manager, Senzo Mazingiza.

AmaZulu Marketing Manager, Lunga Sokhela is equally keen of the KZN club’s participation.

“I believe that this is a great way to start the 2012/13 season. We hope that this cup will be an annual event and we look forward to playing the reigning champions,” said Sokhela.
