Orlando Pirates remain in the hunt for Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari, but must fight off BidVest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 33-year former Jomo Cosmos, Auxerre, Portsmouth and Manchester City forward is a free agent and has indicated he would like to play in South Africa next season.

As he has a house in Johannesburg, it would seem Gauteng is his likely destination, and he has a trio of clubs chasing his services.

“We are definitely still interested in the player, and he’s interested in coming to Wits. He

did, however, say that both Pirates and Sundowns have also spoken to him, so we will wait and see,” Wits coach Roger de Sa told reporters.

Pirates are looking to beef up their frontline, especially as it is growing ever more likely that Tokelo Rantie, who was on loan with the team last season, will remain in Europe.
