Komphela, Igesund short-listed
Steve
Komphela and Gordon Igesund have been short-listed for the vacant Bafana Bafana
coaching position on Monday.
SAFA had
interviewed the duo, along with SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt, Thanda
Royal Zulu mentor Neil Tovey and former Bafana and national Under-23 coach
Shakes Mashaba.
But
the panel who sat through four interviews on Thursday, and then Komphela’s
today, have short-listed the latter and Igesund after they announced that they
were most impressed with the duo’s presentations.
The
pair will now give another presentation on June 30, after which a final
decision will be made on who to appoint.
Komphela
has been in charge as a caretaker in the last two matches, a disappointing 1-1
draw with Botswana in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier on June 9, and then a 3-0
friendly win over a youthful Gabon last Friday night.
He
might therefore be deemed the frontrunner, but Igesund would be the popular
choice among fans, having worked wonders to get Moroka Swallows to second place
in the PSL last season.
He
has twice before come close to the Bafana job, only to be disappointed at the
last, so may not be too confident going into final straight of this decision.
