Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will now wait to see what pre-season invitations they get after the cancellation of the Vodacom Challenge.

The annual event will not take place this year after organisers SAIL failed to secure opposition for the Soweto pair.

But that has left a massive hole in the pre-season plans of the clubs, with the Vodacom Challenge having previously been a key cog in their preparations for the new campaign.

The clubs will now wait to see what invitations they receive to PSL pre-season tournaments around the country.

"Plans are still at a very low level. But there are pre-season plans that the coach [Augusto Palacios] is putting in place," Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane told Sowetan. "There are a few invitations that have come through to the club, though right now there is nothing that has been confirmed."
