CAF boost for Leopards
Black Leopards have received a boost with
the news that CAF Confederation Cup opponents Al-Merreikh will be without one
of their top stars.
Leopards travel to Sudan to take on Al-Merreikh
on June 30 in the first leg of their play-off fixture in this year’s
competition.
But that is the same day that Egypt will
travel to Central African Republic for the second leg of their 2013 Africa Cup
of Nations qualifier, having lost 3-2 in the first game.
And The Pharaohs have managed to secure
veteran goalkeeper Essam Al Hadary for the game, after there was a brief battle
between club and country for his services.
Al Hadary may be 39, but he remains one of
the top keepers on the continent and has thwarted South African sides before,
both with the national team and in making over 500 appearances for top Egyptian
team Al-Ahly.
His absence will be a blow for Al-Merreikh
and a boost for Lidoda Duvha in what will be a very difficult away trip to
Omdurman.
