Pirates sell Mhlongo to Stars
Platinum Stars have completed the
capture of Orlando Pirates midfielder Benson Mhlongo, the club announced on
Tuesday.
The former Bafana Bafana international
has seen his game-time limited at Pirates after a crippling knee injury put him
out of the game for almost two years.
Since his return at the beginning of the
2011/12 campaign, he has been unable to force his way into the Bucs team on a
regular basis.
The 31-year-old will now have the chance
to start afresh at Dikwena though, where his versatility in being able to play
in central defence or midfield will be a great asset.
Stars had four Pirates players on loan
last season, Patrick Malokase, who they have since signed on a permanent deal,
Lucas Thwala, Chiukepo Msowoya and Mduduzi Nyanda.
Mhlongo is the fifth signing made by
Stars in this transfer window, the others being midfielders Malokase,
Mogakolodi Ngele (Township Rollers, Botswana) and Bongani Nyathi (Free State
Stars), and striker Thabani Mthembu (Young Mates).
