Pirates honour players at awards
Siyabonga Sangweni was named Orlando
Pirates Player of the Season at their awards evening at the Orlando Stadium on
Saturday.
The Bafana Bafana centre-back was also named Carling Black Label Online Player
of the Season and pocketed a total of R160 000 in prize-money, as well as
a new Peugeot car.
Goal of the Season was won by Oupa Manyisa
(R30 000) for his stunning strike in the MTN8 semifinals against Mamelodi
Sundowns, and he also picked up the Players’ Player of the Season
(R50 000).
Benni McCarthy picked up the Golden Boot
award (R35 000) for his 10 goals this season, while left-back Thabo
Matlaba picked up Prospect of the Season (R35 000).
Senzo Meyiwa won Save of the Season
(R30 000) for a stunning stop against Bloemfontein Celtic, while Lucky
Lekgwathi received the Chairman’s Award (R100 000) for his long service to
the club.
