Phungwayo reveals Chiefs interest
New Orlando
Pirates left-back Patrick Phungwayo has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs were also
after his services.
Phungwayo
joined The Buccaneers on a free transfer from BidVest Wits at the end of last
season and recently told reporters that he might have been a Chiefs player
instead.
“It’s something that could have happened, but I think by the time Chiefs put in
an offer, I was almost a Pirates player,” Phungwayo says.
“Obviously when
there’s nothing concrete on the one side, you have to look at where there is
something concrete and solid.
“Pirates came up with something solid
and we agreed on everything, so I didn’t see any reason why I shouldn’t go and
fight for my position at the club.”
The 24-year-old is one of a number of
left-backs at Bucs and will fight for his place in the starting line-up with
the likes of Lucky Lekgwathi, Thabo Matlaba, Reuben Cloete, Lizu Mjempu and
Aubrey Ngoma.
