Chiefs win Gauteng Cup
Sthembiso Ngcobo
Kaizer Chiefs defeated BidVest Wits 8-7 on
penalties after the teams had finished 0-0 after 90 minutes of the Gauteng Cup
final on Saturday.
Chiefs defeated Moroka Swallows 3-0 in
their semifinal, while Wits edged SuperSport United 1-0 in the Last 4.
Wits had a chance when new signing from
Black Leopards, Luyolo Mapolisa, saw his shot saved by Arthur Bartman in the
Chiefs goal. The veteran stopper later saved well from Stanton Fredericks.
Fredericks had an excellent chance to win
the game late on, but rushed his effort and put it wide.
Derrick Spencer missed the crucial eighth
spot-kick for Wits, allowing Sthembiso Ngcobo to socre the winner for AmaKhosi.
