Stars, Leopards in friendly
Platinum Stars take on Black Leopards in a
friendly on Saturday that serves as a final tune-up for the sides ahead of the
2012/13 season.
The match will be a perfect chance for both
coaches to assess their sides ahead of what is sure to be an exciting campaign
for both teams.
Stars have recently returned from a camp in
Mpumalanga that coach Cavin Johnson described as a huge success, and will also
meet either University of Pretoria or Bay United in a friendly next week.
That will be a final chance to get rid of
some pre-season rustiness before they face Moroka Swallows in their opening
Premier League match of the campaign at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday,
August 12.
Leopards open their season with a home game
against Bloemfontein Celtic on August 11.
Johnson says the friendlies are vital in
fine-tuning his plans for the new season.
“They will be two very competitive games
and that is what we need at this stage,” he says. “Leopards had a great run in
the CAF Confederation Cup and so have been playing up until fairly recently. We
know they will be in good shape and that is what we want, a good, hard run-out
for our players.”
