McCarthy warns against complacency
Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy says
not much can be read into the team’s past meetings with Lamontville Golden
Arrows.
The Buccaneers begin their quest for a third successive Absa Premiership title
when they host Abafana Bes’thende in the opening game of the League season on
Friday night.
Pirates clinched their last two Premiership
titles with final day wins against the KwaZulu-Natal side, including last year’s
4-2 success in Durban.
But McCarthy says that is all all water
under the bridge and nothing can be read into the game.
“We start our long journey which is the league campaign, and we'll try to get
the ball rolling in the best way possible," he told the club website.
"[But]
this will be a totally different ball game. We beat Arrows 4-2 the last time we
played them. This does not mean that it will be a walk-over.
"We need to prepare very well for
them, and make sure that on the night we make use of our goal scoring
opportunities."
