Chiefs chasing Mphela?

Kaizer Chiefs may make a move for Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela in the next transfer window.

That is according to a report in The Citizen newspaper on Friday, which suggest that had he been fit, Mphela might already be an AmaKhosi player.

The 27-year-old is currently on the sidelines with a knee injury and is not expected back in action before October at least.

He had surgery on the knee after appearing for Bafana Bafana in the June World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Botswana, where he took his tally to 23 goals in 47 internationals for South Africa.

When fit he is arguably the most complete striker in the PSL and is seen as a possible solution to Chiefs’ bluntness in attack, though that has improved already this season.

AmaKhosi were amongst the lowest scorers in the top-flight in the last campaign, but so far this year have netted nine times in three games.

They might come back in for the player in the next transfer window once he has proven his fitness, though the report also suggests that he is hoping to use the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as a springboard for a move to Europe, given the global prominence the tournament will have.

Mr editor! how true is this article? I would love to see him wearing black and gold but I doubt if sundows will ever release him for a PSL team.
