SuperSport too good for Celtic
Glen Salmon of SuperSport United
Matsatsantsa’s goals were scored by Sibusiso Zuma and Kermit Erasmus as the visiting side enjoyed superiority throughout the match. Celtic’s consolation goal was netted by Lennox Bacela.
Siwelele will be happy that they have finished inside the top 8 – in seventh position – and can look forward to the MTN 8 competition next season.
Zuma had the first chance for United, but he struck his shot against the bar from only 10 yards out.
But a minute later, the visitors took a deserved lead when Erasmus fired a low shot past Thabani Stemmer after Celtic had failed to clear their lines.
United continued to press hard for another goal and they found it when Zuma found himself with some space inside the box. He unleashed a low shot that hit the base of the upright and went straight into the back of the net, 2-0.
Celtic managed to fashion a few half chances, but Ruzaigh Gamildien and Lennox Bacela both failed to provide any real problems for United ‘keeper Ronwen Williams.
The former had a great chance to pull one back for the home side, but he shot straight at the keeper from a good position in the area, while the latter was unable to keep his long range shot on target.
Celtic made an attempt to come back into the game, and their top scorer Bacela put the ball past Williams to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute.
After that goal, Phunya Sele Sele continued to press hard for an equaliser but they found United defence as solid as a rock.
In the end, United emerged victorious as they finished the season on position three on the log.
Celtic who suffered their second defeat in a row have made it into the top-eight bracket and they should thank Black Leopards for doing them a huge favour in Limpopo by beating Ajax Cape Town.
