Umar Zango’s late goal gave Kano Pillars a 1-0 home win
over Warri Wolves to keep them in the hunt for the Nigeria Premier League
title.
Pillars moved into second place on 43 points before Sunday’s ‘Oriental Derby’ between hosts Enyimba and table toppers Enugu Rangers.
Experienced central defender scored seven minutes from time to secure maximum points against a determined Warri Wolves.
The visitors took the fight to Pillars and almost got a point from the game until Zango struck to give Baba Ganaru-tutored side 1-0 win.
Speaking with MTNFootball.com, Pillars Coach Baba Ganaru said it was a tough match but saluted his players for not giving up.
“The game was tough as we expected. Warri Wolves are no small team, they are ambitious. But I give credit to my players who fought till victory was secured," Baba Ganaru said.
Kwara United beat Gombe United 2-1 in Ilorin.
Kwara goals came through Seun Sogbeso and Bala Zakkah in the 13th and 29th minutes, before Austin Ekpoma scored Gombe consolation goal in the 78th minute.
Gomo Onduku's 50th minute goal gave Sharks a 1-0 home win over Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt.
Gomo told MTNFootball.com it was a crucial victory for Sharks, who have lost two straight games before this match.
"It was a great game and I am happy to score the match winner. We needed to win the game and so we’re delighted we did,” he said.
In other matches, strugglers Rising Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Jigawa Golden Stars and Niger Tornadoes turned back Akwa United 2-0 in Minna.
