The NPL have slammed a hefty fine of 2.2 million Naira (about $14,000) on Warri Wolves after a fan caused the cancellation of a game.

On Wednesday, Rising Stars player Segun Bajowa was beaten up by a Wolves fan in the first half of an NPL tie and as a result the game was abandoned.

The executive secretary of NPL Tunji Babalola announced the fine on Warri Wolves.

He said, "The board have imposed a fine of #2.2million on Warri Wolves for what happened during their game with Rising Stars.

“Two million Naira is for pitch encroachment while 200,000 Naira is meant for the treatment of the assaulted player.

“Warri Wolves will play their home games behind closed door pending the decision of organising and disciplinary committee of NFF on the matter."

The Warri Wolves vs Rising Stars Week 28 tie was abandoned towards end of first half with scores at 1-1 after a fan beat up Rising Stars player Bajowa, who was warming up to replace another player.

The fan has since been arrested by the police and he will soon appear in court, according to Delta Football Association spokesman Timi Ebikagboro.
