NPL Star of the Week: Sibi Gwar
Sibi Gwar - 15 goals and counting...
He remains the leading scorer in the league after he fired his 15th league goal in his Niger Tornadoes 3-2 loss to ABS FC in Ilorin Wednesday.
He is undoubtedly the man of the moment and he is still poised to set a new goals record in the NPL as he is just six goals shy of the all-time record set by Jude Aneke last season.
Sibi Gwar has proved to be the most consistent striker in NPL since 2008 as he has not failed to score less than 10 goals, season in, season out.
He was the NPL Goal King in 2008 with Lobi. The 24-year-old is an energetic, fast forward armed with good positioning and an eye for goal.
He told MTNFootball.com: "My target is very clear - I want to win the top scorers’ award and set a new record in the process.
“And to do this, I need to score 21 goals even though I have set a personal target of 25 goals for myself this season.
“I also want to ensure my goals help Tornadoes stay up in the Premier League. That is why I have not traveled out of the country for trials or joined any team abroad yet.
“I have several offers from overseas but I am not in a rush. I will finish the business with Tornadoes first."
Sibi Gwar, who attended Government Secondary School, Gboko, has featured for BCC Lions, Ebonyi Angels, Kwara United, Enyimba, Lobi Stars before he joined up with Niger Tornadoes.
