Enyimba promise backlash in Gombe

Title-chasing Enyimba hope to get a result at Gombe United after their aspirations in the NPL were dealt a huge blow by ABS last week.

Enyimba are on 49 points, same as second-placed Rangers and a point behind leaders Kano Pillars and victory against Gombe United would shoot the Aba team to summit of the table if their closest rivals slip in mid-week games.

Enyimba outclassed Gombe United 3-1 at home in the first round of the championship.

Enyimba captain Josiah Maduabuchi told MTNFootball.com that they are gunning for victory against Gombe after losing 3-1 to ABS in Ilorin.

He said, "Our attention is now shifted to the Gombe United game. We are going for victory because with that we can go to the top or at worst keep the pressure on the front two.

“We have put behind us the loss to ABS and everything now points to an outright victory against Gombe.

“Gombe are good, but we are good enough to beat them."

Enyimba forward Gbolahan Salami said his club remain on track to win a seventh league championship after they turned away Sunshine Stars 2-1 last week.

“The Sunshine match was one of my best this season. They tried to provoke me, but I’m a ‘born again’ player now and instead they bagged a red card and later I caused the penalty from which we scored our winning goal,” Salami informed MTNFootball.com

"Enyimba are therefore one of the favourites to win the league this season.”

Gombe United forward Sanusi Sani said he hopes to end his goals drought by finding the back of the net against Enyimba.

“I am looking forward to scoring against Enyimba on our way to victory,” said the former Zamfara United star.

"It will be a tough match but we are capable of beating them because they are not invincible we are ready to beat them."

Ten-goal Mustapha Babadidi remains on the sidelines no thanks to a serious knee injury despite claims to the contrary.
