Coach Baba Ganaru has said second-placed
Kano Pillars aim to go top of the NPL table after a big home win over
struggling Ocean Boys Sunday.
Ganaru told MTNFootball.com his team are ambitious and so will want to trounce Ocean Boys inside the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano so as to topple Rangers from the top of the table.
Both teams are on 46 points, but Rangers enjoy a better goals difference going into this weekend games.
"We have our target to win league and we have been working towards it. Now that we have same points with Rangers, there is no chance to relax,” said Ganaru.
“We are ambitious and the spirit in the team is very high and as such we won't take it lightly with any team. We have resolved to go to the top this weekend and the only way to do that is to beat Ocean Boys by nothing less than 4-0. That is the way we are sure of taking over the leadership of the league."
Pillars will still miss the services of Victor Namo, who is back from trials at Bloemfontein Celtic of South Africa due to a groin injury, and Isa Sharif, who is undergoing trials in the Ukraine.
In Ibadan, former Lobi Stars player Gabriel Adikwu has warned his new club Shooting Stars to beware of the threat that will be posed by David Tyavkase and Jonah Abutu when the both teams clash at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan.
Adikwu, who joined 3SC in mid-season, said Tyavkase and Abutu have the class to unsettle any team.
"Tyavkase is an experienced player who helped Enyimba to win the CAF Champions League back to back. We need to tame him because we have the same points, so also Abutu, who I know very well,” warned Adikwu.
Taofeek Adepoju disclosed 3SC will be gunning for maximum points against the Makurdi team.
"We are going to attack Lobi Stars and score many goals because we believe we can still climb up on the table,” said Adepoju.
Outstanding winger Tony Edjomarigwe is ruled out of this clash due to a thigh injury from the last match against Rising Stars. He is expected to be fit by next weekend.
Also missing is striker Thomas Adesina, who is away on trials in Israel.
