Rangers push for the Nigeria Premier League crown will face a
stern test at old rivals Shooting Stars this weekend.
Shooting Stars and Rangers will rekindle an enduring rivalry on Sunday when both clubs clash at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, in a Week 35 NPL tie.
In the first round of the championship, Rangers barely won 3-2 in Enugu with 3SC now vowing to take their pound of flesh on Sunday.
Speaking with MTNFootball.com, Shooting stars media officer Jubril Arowolo said it is going to be an interesting game and that his team are poised to win as they are very much in contention too for the championship.
“It is obvious that we have been rivals for long and that will come into play this weekend in Ibadan. We are prepared for them, their position on the table does not matter as people are expecting a great match and that will happen and we will beat them.
“They beat us 3-2 at their home but we were the only team to have scored two goals against them there this season. They managed to beat us because they were playing at home but we will beat them well in this one at our own backyard.
“Their top position on the table means nothing to us because we are in contention for the title as well and so we need to win the match.
“Last season, Rangers got the six points against us, but this time, it is a different ball game. It will be entertaining and we will beat them no doubt.”
There are no injury worries in the Oluyole warlords’ camp ahead of the game.
Rangers coach Okey Emordi told MTNFootball.com that his team will go all out against 3SC to get a favourable result.
He said, “We are going to Ibadan with the hope of doing well. It won’t be an easy game because 3SC is not a small team but we are going to give our best in the match in order to achieve a good and favourable result to aid our cause to be champions,” said Emordi, who at a time was linked with the coaching position at the Ibadan club.
