Kwara United goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen stood out as the top performer in Week 33 of the Nigeria Premier League.

Though the likes of Gambo Mohammed and Abdulrahman Bashir stepped up their chase for the Goal King Award in the games played on Wednesday and Thursday, but the exploits of the former youth international in goal against Sharks would earn him the accolade as the MTNFootball.com player of the week.

This is the first time a goalkeeper is getting such a recognition.

The 19-year-old shot stopper made no fewer than five top-class saves including two against striker Gomo Onduku.

Yekeen forced his way into the first team of Kwara United during the Nigeria Premier League 2009-2010, although facing tough competition from Mustapha Salihu, a former member of the home-based Eagles.

He was a delight to watch at the 2010 Super Four, where his excellent performance got everyone talking.

He told MTNFootball.com his role model is Iker Casillas of Real Madrid.

“I support Real Madrid because of my model, Iker Casillas. His agility and sharpness on duty are a source of encouragement for me. I want to be like him,” he said.

He also revealed that his dream is to soon play in Europe.

“My ultimate dream is to play in Europe, where I could showcase my talent for the world to see,” said Yekeen, who was part of Flying Eagles squad to the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia.

“I love the Spanish league and want to play there, but offers from other good leagues would be welcomed.”
