George Akpabio could make his debut for new South African club Ajax Cape
Town Wednesday against Platinum Stars.
"I will be presented to the fans on Wednesday and all things been equal, I will debut that same day at home against Platinum Stars,” the former Plateau United striker informed MTNFootball.com
Akpabio has signed a contract for two and half years.
He said his target is to establish himself at the top PSL side by scoring goals and helping the team to win the league title.
"I am looking forward to pinning down a regular starting shirt with my new team. I also want to score many goals so as to win the top scorers’ award and league title here,” said Akpabio, who fired 17 goals for relegated Palteau United last season
“This is a new challenge for me and I won't let myself and the club down.'
Meanwhile, Plateau United general manager, Bitrus Bewarang, has hailed the transfer of the team's top striker to South Africa.
Bewarang told MTNFootball.com that Akpabio's deal has shamed critics who see nothing good about his administration.
“I am very happy that George has sealed his deal. This has shamed my critics, who have never see anything good about my administration that has produced a player like George,” said the former national team coach.
“This move to Ajax Cape Town will serve as a take-off point for him because the report I got from South Africa was encouraging and this have started open gate of opportunity for us as we have a sponsorship partnership to be sealed with the club. I am sure they will come for more players here."
Bewarang further disclosed, “It was good deal for George and the club will get an income from further sale of the player.”'
