Eguavoen upset Enyimba management
Six-time NPL champions Enyimba delayed the appointment of former Nigeria Olympic team coach Austin Eguavoen after he demanded to name his own backroom staff.

MTNFootball.com had several weeks ago broken the story that Eguavoen has been hired as the technical adviser of ‘The People’s Elephant’.

However, our investigations revealed that the two-time CAF Champions League winners delayed making Eguavoen's engagement public after both parties could not agree on some terms.

MTNFootball.com specially gathered that the former Eagles captain demanded to appoint his backroom staff, but the request did not go down well with the Enyimba management, who had already appointed Audu Maikaba as chief coach.

Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who refused comment on how the issue was resolved, said, "We have confidence in the ability of Eguavoen. We know what he can do and we are sure he would lead us back to our glory days"

The immediate task of Eguavoen is to ensure that Enyimba qualify for the CAF Champions League next year by either reclaiming the league crown or finishing as runners-up this season.

For the first time in the last six years, the Aba club are missing from continental action this year after they failed to win any trophies last season.

Eguavoen was in charge of the team in the 2008/ 2009 league season and guided them to win the Federation Cup.
