Bullish Rangers closer league crown
Rangers dumped Sunshine Stars at home on Wednesday
NPL resumes Wednesday
Rangers
have declared they will be crowned Nigeria league champions after they beat
Sunshine Stars to reclaim top spot on the table.
Rangers brushed past Sunshine Stars 3-0 at home in a rescheduled tie on Wednesday to return to the summit of the Nigeria Premier League with 61 points ahead of closest rivals Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars.
Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi told MTNFootball.com that no club can now deny Rangers the NPL title this season.
The petite winger said that even though the club were unable to go beyond the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup, they are very confident about their chances of lifting the championship this season.
"No team can stop us from winning the league. They can only try, but the best they would finish is second behind us," declared Ejike.
Despite being tied on the same 61 points with Kano Pillars, who are in second spot, Uzoenyi has insisted that Pillars have an outside chance with Lobi Stars in third place as the team who could best scuttle their title aspirations.
"I am not underrating any team, but Kano Pillars and Enyimba are out of it. Pillars next two games are away and no team would want to lose at home. Lobi Stars are the only team I could say have a chance but they can only try."
Rangers next game will be away in Katsina-Ala, where Lobi, who have recorded 60 points, have been invincible.
Rangers defender Ambrose Onyeama said they hope to go for broke at Lobi on Wednesday.
“For our next game against Lobi, we are going to play the game with all we have knowing full well that we can beat Lobi in Kastina-Ala,” he said.
We know that a lot of teams have gone there and failed to win, but can’t afford to slip because now we are inches away from the trophy.
“That is the game where we will wrap up the league title.
He added: “Rangers have shown tenacity and we have all it takes to end the 28-year trophy drought after we set a target in the beginning of the season to do just that.
“With hard work, dedication and commitment we will achieve this goal.”
‘The Flying Antelopes’ final game will be at home against Sharks.
