Eagles goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim has rejected the captain’s arm band at Nigeria Premier League side Warri Wolves.

New coach Maurice Cooreman named Agbim as club skipper because he is also captain of the home-based national team.

However, officials informed MTNFootball.com that Agbim turned down the chance to lead Wolves in the weekend’s 0-0 draw at home with Heartland.

“Agbim rejected the captaincy, saying he is not comfortable with it. Cooreman considered the player for the new role because he is already captain of the home-based Eagles,” said Wolves spokesman Timi Ebikagboro.

“As a result, Goodluck Onamado remains the captain of the team and he led us out against Heartland.”

On Sunday, Wolves will host South Africa’s Black Leopards in a CAF Confederation Cup Round of 16 match.

Ebikagboro said they have videos of the South African team and enough information on the team who stand between them and a place in the money-spinning group phase of the competition.
