Dolphin to sign Ajiboye
Shooting Stars have beaten NPL champions Dolphin to Nigeria Olympic
team goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, who is returning to the local league after two
years in the Spanish second division.
Shooting Stars club manager Mutiu Adepoju told MTNFootball.com his club have signed Ajiboye as well as Sope Ahmed, who until recently was playing in Turkey.
“We have signed some good players for the new season like Ajiboye and Sope Ahmed,” said Adepoju, who currently doubles as coach before a replacement is named for Fatai Amoo.
Ajiboye, whose contract at Spanish Secunda division side Pontevedra was not renewed, was top of the shopping list of NPL champions Dolphin as coach Stanley Eguma opened discussions with the shot stopper right from the Olympic team camp.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper is expected to be first choice at 3SC following the departure of veteran Segun Oluwaniyi to Sunshine Stars.
Former U17 international Laide Okanlawon is also expected to leave for Kwara United, meaning youngster Abiodun Akande will now most likely be cover for Ajiboye.
‘The Oluyole Warriors’ have also snapped up three players from relegated Crown FC of Ogbomosho. They are Ibrahim Babalola, Sylvester Francis and Seun Akinyemi.
They also signed Shola Agogo from Sharks of Port Harcourt.
The Ibadan club will begin an intensive training camp at IITA from Friday, according to assistant coach Tunde Odubola.
They host Sharks in their opening game of the new season on January 8.
