Kaduna State government have opened a thorough investigation
into a staggering 257 million Naira expenditure of NPL side Kaduna United, who have failed to pay their
players and officials for the past nine months.
A top ministry official informed MTNFootball.com that an investigative panel led by sports commissioner Nazifi Mohammed are to find out how Kaduna United spent over 182 million Naira to feature in this year’s CAF Confederation and another 75 million Naira to take part in the local league.
Further checks showed that United expended a total of 42 million Naira for their matches home and away against Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire in the Confederation Cup.
They equally splashed out 36 million Naira to take on Chadian club Foullah Edifice home and away in a second round of the same Confederation Cup.
They also spent 26 million Naira to host Interclube of Angola in Kaduna and another 13 million Naira when they fell 1-0 at home to Tunisia’s Club Africain.
Despite the huge investment, Kaduna State government-owned club failed to go past the group phase of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
“It is puzzling that a team that gets over 30 million Naira a quarter from government should now be in such a big financial mess,” a top sports ministry official informed MTNFootball.com
The team are yet to resume training for the new season because of these poor finances forcing the bulk of the squad to try their luck at other clubs.
The officials were shocked to learn that a 15 million Naira signing-on fee promised Belgian coach Maurice Cooreman for him to stay put and not join Warri Wolves at the beginning of last season has yet to be paid.
Cooreman is also owed nine million Naira being his unpaid salaries for nine months.
The highest paid players at the club earn 160,000 Naira a monthly after signing-on fees were abolished, meaning that these players are now expecting to be paid over a million Naira each before the new season gets underway.
