Two Nigeria U17 players, Adamu Abubakar and Friday Njengo, have
cheated death in a car crash on their way to training camp in Calabar.
They suffered different degrees of injury as a result of the accident, which occurred at Dan Anacha village on Sunday on their way from Jalingo.
The unfortunate incident happened when a motorcycle suddenly dashed into the road and the driver then crashed into a truck pusher while trying to avoid the motorcycle.
Abubakar suffered head and shoulder injuries, while Friday Njengo is unconscious.
The players are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been duly informed, while Golden Eaglets coach Manu Garba has been in constant touch with the hospital and monitoring the condition of the players.
"I called them at the Federal Medical Centre and the doctor said Friday (Njengo) will undergo x-ray to determine the extent of injuries, but he is still unconscious," a visibly shaken coach Garba said, adding that it was unfortunate the accident happened at a time the youngsters were coming to serve their fatherland.
NFF president Aminu Maigari, who is in South Africa for the AFCON, has ordered the team officials to continue to monitor the situation of the two players and that two officials must immediately depart for Jalingo for an on-spot assessment of the condition of the players.
