NFF chief challenges F/Eagles
Flying Eagles pose at their Cape Town hotel
F/Eagles battle South Africa
Nigeria Football Federation executive committee member Emeka
Inyama has demanded for improvements from the country’s U20 team Tuesday.
The Flying Eagles are up against hosts South Africa after they lost their first two matches at the Cape Town International Challenge.
The Flying Eagles lost 3-2 to Ghana and then 1-0 to Argentina in the eight-nation invitational tournament in Cape Town, South Africa.
“I expect you to do a lot better against the South Africans because we all know you can do so,” Inyama told the players at Monday’s afternoon training at the Erica Park.
“We should not lose hope because Nigerian teams have been known to bounce back from defeat to win. The examples are numerous, like when we lost to Algeria 5-1 in the opening game of the 1990 Nations Cup only to go on and play against the same team in the final.
“Or who can forget ‘The Damman Miracle’, when the same Flying Eagles came back from four goals down to beat Russia?
“On Tuesday, I expect to see the spirited performance we see from you in the second half displayed right from the first half and in the second half, we expect even more from you.”
The Nigeria leader of delegation further said,” I want you to play with confidence especially as you all are aware that we could still meet South Africa in the qualifying series of the 2013 Africa Youth Championship.
“I’m a man of success and I beg of you to ensure this continues here in Cape Town.”
The Flying Eagles could still sneak into the last four if they beat South Africa by two clear goals and Group A leaders Argentina do them a big favour by beating Ghana in the second match of the day.
The Flying Eagles match will kick off at 6pm local time (5pm Nigerian time) at the Cape Town Stadium.
