Raheem Lawal, Oduamadi vow to shine
Lawal now has chance to shine with Eagles after dazzling with the Olympic team
'Off-form' Nwofor axed
Olympic team stars Raheem Lawal and Nnamdi Oduamadi have hailed
their promotion to the Super Eagles with a promise not to disappoint.
Spain-based midfielder Lawal and Oduamadi, who features for Torino in the Italian Serie B, are among the five foreign-based pros called up by Nigeria for a May 23 friendly against Peru in Lima.
Coach Stephen Keshi has expressed apprehension over his midfield and Lawal, who shone at last year’s 2012 Olympic qualifiers in Morocco, is widely seen as part of the answer to this problem.
He told MTNFootball.com that even though he may struggle with the timing of the friendly because he is involved in a playoff with his Spanish club, he will still do everything to feature in the game.
"My major concern now is that our first playoff game is on the 20th and the Peru game happens three days later. But I know how to go about it,” Lawal told MTNFootball.com
“All the same, I’m most grateful to Coach Keshi for this opportunity.
"I am elated with this news. I have prayed and waited for this call-up. It’s now up to me to do coach Keshi proud, he has spoken highly of me.
"I am confident that I will not disappoint. I have made up my mind to fight for a place in the Eagles and I have everything going for me to fit into the Eagles midfield."
Winger Oduamadi said he hopes to translate his form at his Italian club in the Eagles.
"I have been complimented for my form for Torino this season. I hope to transfer that form to the Eagles. Like I would always say, I would like to do the talking on the pitch,” said the forward, who is loan to Torino from AC Milan.
"I have always waited and craved for this moment. I am very excited about this invitation. What I would say is that I will do my best possible not to disappoint the coach and Nigerians.
“I cannot wait to play for the Eagles!”
