Yobo visits upbeat Eagles
Injured Eagles skipper Yobo
Yobo won't go cheap
Skipper Joseph Yobo visited the Nigeria camp Saturday as the country’s
football boss demanded a resounding victory against Namibia Sunday.
Yobo, who has been ruled out of the Super Eagles qualifiers this month due to injury, was a pleasant guest of the national team during lunch Saturday afternoon.
Yobo strolled in while the team were having lunch and exchanged pleasantries with both officials and his fellow players.
The star defender said he came around the team to spur them to victory against Namibia and get set for the next round of qualifiers, when he would be fully fit.
On Saturday morning, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Aminu Maigari urged the team to the players to go all out and not only defeat Namibia, but spell the name of the country, by scoring seven unreplied goals.
Maigari gave the charge when he addressed the players after their training at the stadium.
“We should not fret because a country like Namibia is coming to play us. We must be bold, determined and score goals that will make President Goodluck Jonathan to be proud of this new team,” charged Maigari.
“In fact, I want you to go and spell Namibia, that is the charge from the NFF and the President of the Republic.”
Maigari praised the level of discipline and concentration in camp, noting that it shows that the Eagles are determined not only to excel but chart a new course for Nigerian football.
He commended the coaches headed by Stephen Keshi for a job well done and Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, for the support he has given to the NFF and the national team.
The NFF president said the Governor, who unlike other public figures has no attachment with any foreign club side, sees himself first and foremost as a supporter of the Super Eagles.
“That is why he has to cancel a trip to the United States to personally come to the stadium, to lead citizens of the state to cheer you to victory,” he told the players.
Earlier, Keshi said the Namibia game was war on the pitch and he expects the team to help perfect on the pitch what he has been putting across to them in the last one week.
“Show Nigerians that the sleeping giant is finally awake and means business by qualifying for the 2012 Nations Cup and the Brazil 2014 World Cup,” he demanded.
Meanwhile, Spain-based midfielder Raheem Lawal also finally joined the team Saturday afternoon after he was delayed by work permit issues at his base.
