Glasgow Rangers forward Sone Aluko has saluted as bold the decision by Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi to pick Nigeria Premier League players.

“The coach has been brave with his selections, playing players from the local league with pros from overseas,” said Aluko, who won his second cap as a late substitute against Rwanda Saturday.

“And so far this new team have done well – two wins at a home and a draw away.”

Like it has been in the Eagles three straight games this month, Keshi again started five players from the NPL against Rwanda in a must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

Aluko will back the Eagles to fly all the way to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

“We are confident that we will qualify for the Nations Cup,” the winger said.

Enugu Rangers left winger Ejike Uzoenyi further told MTNFootball.com that both the players from the NPL and their overseas colleagues have got along very well.

“The relationship between the home-based players and the professionals has been fantastic,” said Uzoenyi, who was supported at the Rwanda game by several top management staff of his club.

“We all know that we have to continue to work hard to stay in the team. It’s either to get it right or you walk away.”

Warri Wolves goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim is the Eagles third choice and he said he is honoured to be so considered.

“I’m honoured to play and train with the professionals. I’m favoured to be in the squad and I will continue to work,” said the shot stopper, who at a time was approached to take up Sudanese citizenship so as to feature for that country’s team.

Agbim said the Eagles are on track to qualify for both the Nations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.

“Nigerians were disappointed when we failed to qualify for the last Nations Cup and so it was very important that we beat Rwanda to stay on course to qualifying for the next edition,” he said.

“We do not hope to lose any game because we all want to be at both the Nations Cup and the World Cup.”
