The Nigeria Football Federation have disclosed they plan a three-nation U17 female tournament that would also involve World Cup-bound Ghana and Gambia.

The planned tournament would be staged in either Nigeria or Ghana.

NFF general secretary Musa Amadu told MTNFootball.com, "The move is geared towards ensuring that the African representatives to the World Cup are fully prepared.

"The tournament would happen some times in August to test the strength of the teams ahead of the U17 World Cup in Azerbaijan."

Nigeria’s female U17 team, the Flamingoes, are drawn in Group A along with hosts Azerbaijan, Canada and Colombia.

Ghana are in Group D alongside Uruguay, China and Germany, while debutants Gambia are drawn in the first round with France, United States and North Korea.

The women’s FIFA U17 World Cup will kick off on September 22.
